Angling experiences we offer

We offer a range of angling experiences to suit all levels

Dunmore Boat Trips offers Reef Bank Fishing about 15 to 20 minutes from Dunmore East Harbour. The ground there is good fishing ground for Pollock, Ling, Ballan Wrasse, Cuckoo Wrasse, Haddock, Cod, Conger Eel, Mackerel etc. Most of our fishing is done on the drift, over reefs with sandy ground between. Our inshore bottom fishing ranges from 8 metres to 45 metres.

The Blue Sharks fishing season is usually from mid June to October, with its peak period being between July and September when the water temperatures rise to about 13 / 14 degrees Celsius. Irish Blue Sharks range from 9kg in weight to over 45kg and although they are an oceanic species, they often come less than five miles from land.

Blue Shark Fishing is normally done on the drift. Apart from the traces and a float which we supply, blue shark fishing does not call for any special tackle.

For our more extreme anglers, Dunmore Boat Trips offers specimen hunting. With our local knowledge, you will always be given the best possible chance to reel in a big catch. See our chart below to see the best times for catching the different species around the Dunmore East bay.

Bass is often considered by many anglers to be one of the most desired species caught on rod and line. This powerful fish with its spiked dorsal fin and forked tail can be found very close to land and may be caught from beaches, estuaries, rocky headlands and piers. The best method we find is to use live sand eels on a long flowing trace or ragworm and sometimes peeler crab. Bass fishing is recommended for more experienced anglers.

The Keltoi Warrier is available for hire for Open Boat Competitions throughout Ireland. Early booking is advisable to guarantee your required dates.

Local wrecks and kelp grounds provide plenty of sport with Cod, Pollock, Ling and Whiting always to be found. Not far away from Dunmore East lie numerous wrecks including the popular Manchester Engineer (sunk during WW1) and the Dutchman (1960s), both reachable within two hours of harbour.

We release most of our catch, with species such as Blue Shark and Tope tagged and released, so that the Central Fisheries Board can monitor them. You are free to take home other species such as Cod, Mackerel, Ling and Pollock.

You will usually need a 30lb class down tide outfit for general fishing i.e. Tope and Conger. You could also bring 12 - 20lb uptider / downtider for Pollack, Bass, Ray and so on. Braid fishes well in the stronger runs of tide and heads from 5oz to 1 1/2 oz should suffice.

We recommend you wear many layers of clothing rather than one heavy item. It is usually much cooler at sea due to the breeze being stronger. A good set of waterproofs is also advisable.

Copious amounts of tea and coffee are provided onboard FOC. It is recommended you bring a packed lunch, this can be included if necessary at extra cost. There is a food heating facility onboard.
